How acupuncture works
Chinese medicine is a complex and sophisticated approach to healing. Developed over thousands of years, it is based on ancient Chinese medical texts and clinical observation. It also considers contemporary research.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, stainless steel needles on the surface of the skin to various depths at strategic points along the Qi meridians. Stimulation of these points works to assist the body to move back into balance. In addition to needles, various other methods used to stimulate acupuncture points include electricity, heat, massage and suction created by special cups.
The National Institutes of Health recognizes the efficacy of acupuncture to treat a variety of health conditions. For many patients, acupuncture helps with treatment for;
- Hot flashes
- Digestive complaints
