First-time parent? Looking for a refresher before your baby arrives? You can find the right class for you – whether it's childbirth education, prenatal care, new siblings, babysitting, breastfeeding or newborn care.

Traditional Childbirth Education Series

This multi-evening series of classes addresses the third trimester of pregnancy, including labor and birth, medical interventions, vaginal and cesarean birth, the postpartum period, baby care basics and breastfeeding. This series also includes a tour of the obstetrics unit.

Weekend Express Childbirth Education Class

This one-day class discusses the third trimester of pregnancy, the labor and birth process, medical interventions, vaginal and cesarean birth, the postpartum period, baby care basics and breastfeeding. Also included is a tour of the OB unit.

Sibling Class

This one-hour class is geared to children aged 2 to 10. It’s an interactive presentation on what to expect with a new sibling at home. Children are encouraged to bring a small doll or stuffed animal to class to use to practice diapering and holding a newborn. A short tour of the obstetrics unit and a snack are also included.

Understanding Birth eClass

This self-paced, childbirth class is designed for expectant parents who are unable to attend an on-site prenatal class.  The topics of labor, comfort measures, vaginal and cesarean delivery, and initial newborn and postpartum care are presented through the use of a comprehensive birth guide and access to on-line videos, animation, interactive quizzes, activities and worksheets.

Safe Sitter​® Essentials with CPR 

Safe Sitter® prepares students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.

Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, and helpful information like what to do if there’s severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use CPR manikins to practice CPR and choking rescue!

Safe Sitter® Course Content:

  • Safety Skills: Students learn how to prevent unsafe situations and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies.
  • Child Care Skills: Students learn tips to manage behavior that will help them stay in control of themselves and the children in their care. Students also learn the ages and stages of child development, as well as practice diapering.
  • First Aid & Rescue Skills: Learning skills such as choking rescue and CPR is often students’ favorite part of the class. Students also learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses.
  • Life & Business Skills: The ability to screen jobs, discuss fees, and greet employers will set students up for success now and in the future. Students practice these skills through various role plays.

Breastfeeding Class

This one-hour class is recommended for expectant parents who are interested in learning more about breastfeeding. Topics explored include how breastfeeding works, latching on and positioning, when to breastfeed and how to know if your baby is receiving enough milk. Breastfeeding resources are included.

Newborn Care Class

Exploration of the newborn’s first six weeks is the focus of the one-hour Newborn Care Class. In addition to receiving information about eating, sleeping, crying, health and safety for the newborn, class participants will receive mannequin practice with diapering, swaddling, bathing and holding the newborn.

Triple P Discussion Groups

Triple P Parenting Program is designed to give parents the skills they need to raise confident, healthy children and to build stronger family relationships. Discussion groups are for parents of children up to 12 years old. Each group focuses on one of the following topics: Dealing with Disobedience, Developing Good Bedtime Routines, Managing Fighting and Aggression, and Hassle-free Shopping with Children.

The discussion groups are free for parents.

Understanding Breastfeeding eClass

This self-paced class is designed for expectant parents who are unable to attend an on-site class. The topics of how breastfeeding works, latching on and positioning, when to feed your baby, how much is enough, breast care and breastfeeding lifestyle are presented through the use of a comprehensive birth guide and access to on-line videos, animation, interactive quizzes, activities and worksheets.

Understanding Your Newborn eClass

This self-paced class is designed for expectant parents who are unable to attend an on-site class. The topics of newborn traits, newborn behaviors, crying and comforting, feeding, diapering, bathing, nail care, dressing, newborn health, and newborn safety are presented through the use of a comprehensive birth guide and access to a web app with videos, animations, trackers, checklists and handouts.
