Meet the new Medical Director for Goshen Center for Cancer Care

Leonard Henry, MD, MBA, FACS, sees a bright future for Goshen Center for Cancer Care. As the center’s new Medical Director, he believes its dedication to patient-centered care will change the future of cancer treatment.

“No other cancer program in our area focuses on the patient experience and integrating cancer care services like we do,” said Dr. Henry. “Our expertise and teamwork set us apart.”

Providers at Goshen Center for Cancer Care put patient values, preferences and needs first in planning treatment. That means they care for the physical comfort and emotional well-being of the patient as well as treat the disease.

Expansion of the center’s clinical programs and services also holds a high priority for him.

“We’re aware of services not available in the area,” said Dr. Henry. “We want to fill those gaps to give people a choice for care close to home.”

In the past, patients have gone out of the area, even out of the state for their cancer treatment.

“We offer special expertise and integrated oncology services right here that are on par with well-known cancer centers that are hours and states away,” said Randy Christophel, Goshen Health President and Chief Executive Officer. “As we move forward under Dr. Henry’s leadership, we want to broaden awareness about our high level programs, highly trained providers and reputation for best outcomes.”

The cancer center was first in the region to offer surgery and radiation treatment at the same time for women with certain types of breast cancer. It also is the only center in northern Indiana that combines surgery and chemotherapy in one procedure for patients with cancers in the abdominal areas.

“We’re on a mission to become the destination of choice for patients, payers and referring providers,” said Dr. Henry. “Somewhere in America today is the next great cancer center that nobody knows about right now. That is going to be us.”
