Holidays and grief: a support group to help
Goshen Home Care & Hospice is offering three grief support group meetings this holiday season. Because losses can feel more intense during holidays, sharing our emotions with others who have had similar experiences can provide support and encouragement, according to Janet Quatman, LSW, CHP-SW, Social Worker and Bereavement Coordinator. The meetings are free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to call (574) 364‐2700 to RSVP by November 13.
“Our goals in these groups is to focus on providing a safe and caring setting for individuals to share their experiences. Additionally, we want to help them improve how they care for themselves,” said Quatman, who will lead the meetings.
The first meeting is on November 15 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at Goshen Center for Cancer Care. Chef Samantha Moore, Goshen Hospital Food and Nutrition Services, will provide a “cooking for one” demonstration for those adjusting to living alone. Discussion and support will follow.
The final two meetings will be on November 29 and December 6 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. in Goshen Hospital’s Heritage room. Emotional support, storytelling and discussion about ongoing grief experiences will be the focus.
