We know you want to keep yourself healthy and make informed choices as your age. That’s why we encourage you to schedule routine examinations and take advantage of our well-woman health services at Goshen OB/GYN. It’s the best way to prevent health problems or detect them early when we have the most treatment options.
Preventive care for women of all ages
During your annual visit with our healthcare providers, we review your body’s systems, listen to your concerns and perform routine examinations. Our preventive healthcare services include:
- Annual pelvic and breast exams
- Menopause management
- Pap smears
Right treatment at the right time
As your body ages, you may need specialized care to maintain your health. We can help you understand what tests, screenings or vaccinations may be right for you.
Cervical cancer screening
We encourage sexually active women to get a Pap smear annually. The test can detect early signs of cervical cancer when we have more options for treatment.
Human papillomavirus vaccine
During your well-woman exam, we look for symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases. We discuss the human papillomavirus vaccine with girls and women age nine to 26. This vaccine has proved effective in preventing certain STDs, particularly when preteens receive the entire protocol of three doses prior to having sexual relations.
Contraception and family planning
Whether you want to start planning for a family or use birth control, we can help you find the method that works best for you.
Birth control methods include:
- Barrier methods
- Hormonal methods/Birth control pills
- Implantable/insertion/injection methods, including Intrauterine devices (IUDs)
- Natural family planning
- Permanent techniques, such as tubal ligation or implant
Breast exams and mammograms play important roles in preventive care for women.
Clinical breast exams and self-exams help you and your provider detect changes in your breasts and consider further diagnostic steps.
Mammograms can detect breast cancer that is too small for you or your doctor to feel. These screenings do not prevent breast cancer, but they can save lives by finding breast cancer early when we have more options for treatment.
