Goshen Physicians Orthopedics & Sports Medicine continues to increase the depth and breadth of care available in the community. With the recent addition of Dr. Kyle Carlson, who completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction at Detroit Medical Center, patients no longer have to travel outside of the community for revision surgery when they experience problems with hip or knee replacements.
“After 10 to 20 years with a joint replacement, there may be parts of the joint, especially the plastic piece, that may wear out,” said Dr. Carlson. “If a patient has a lot of pain or instability that interferes with their daily activities and enjoyment of life, it can be an indication that their joint may need to be replaced again, which we call a joint revision. Still, before recommending any surgery, we look carefully at nonoperative treatment options such as physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications and even weight reduction, which can be beneficial in reducing pain.”
“We at Goshen Physicians Orthopedics & Sports Medicine are committed to providing the full range of orthopedic care for our community,” said Dr. Christopher Owens, Medical Director for Goshen Physicians Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. “As part of Goshen Health, we share the vision of improving the health of our community. Living with joint pain can interfere with patients’ energy levels, their ability to enjoy life and do the activities they love. We’re here to evaluate, offer solutions and help patients make decisions to decrease pain and improve their quality of life.”
