Goshen Home Care and Hospice seeks hospice volunteers

GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen Home Care and Hospice is seeking volunteers to provide comfort, support and companionship to hospice patients and their families in Elkhart, La Grange, Noble, and Kosciusko Counties. Volunteers from the following areas are encouraged to apply – Goshen, Syracuse, Middlebury, Millersburg, Bristol and Ligonier.

Volunteers are required to take free training classes prior to any volunteering. During the training, hospice volunteers will learn about the following:

  • Hospice philosophy
  • Communication skills
  • Emotional, spiritual and physical aspects of dying
  • Family dynamics
  • Grief

The hospice training class is six sessions and starts on April 18, 2017. Training sessions are 6:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m. on April 18, 20, 25, 27, May 2 and 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on May 4. All meetings will be held at Goshen Hospital and volunteers must attend all six sessions unless prior arrangements have been made.
