GOSHEN, Ind. – In effort to increase veteran support efforts, Goshen Hospice joined the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration Program. As an official commemorative partner, Goshen Hospice now can distribute commemorative lapel pins to Vietnam veteran patients as a gesture of gratitude for their service.
“The simple gesture of handing out these lapel pins in our community means so much to our Vietnam veterans. They often are happily surprised to be thanked for their service,” said Brenda Wilkinson, BSN, RN, CHPN.
The commemoration program requires that partners participate in at least two community activities or events annually that honor Vietnam veterans. Goshen Hospice has already fulfilled this requirement by volunteering at a local Stand Down event held to support homeless veterans at the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Elkhart Chapter, and hosting a special veteran recognition table in the Goshen Health tent on Senior Day at the Elkhart County 4-H fair.
Goshen Hospice is a level three partner in the national We Honor Veterans program. As a part of this effort, Goshen Hospice coordinates a veteran-to-veteran volunteer program that aims to pair hospice patients with a veteran volunteer who served in the same branch of the military.
