GOSHEN, Ind. – Women in Goshen and the surrounding community are now able to have the most advanced mammograms available. Goshen Retreat Women’s Health Center now provides 3D mammograms (digital breast tomosynthesis) exclusively to all women. This new technology aids in the mission of Goshen Health to improve the health of our community.
“2D mammography can be limiting due to overlapping layers of tissue, which may produce an unclear result,” says Dr. Laura Morris, MD, MBA, FACS, medical director, Goshen Retreat Women’s Health Center. “With this technology we can get a much clearer image of the breast, even if the patient has dense or overlapping tissue. This can decrease the potential of a woman being called back for additional testing as well as increasing the ability to diagnose breast cancer.”
A 3D mammogram is a test performed similarly to a 2D mammogram, adding only seconds onto the examination length. The new screening technology provides a three-dimensional image of the breast using several low-dose X-ray images from different angles. Providers are able to see a clearer image of the breast tissue allowing for earlier detection of breast cancer. Earlier detection of breast cancer has been proven to help save lives.
3D mammography screenings are covered by Medicare and most insurance plans. Please talk with your primary care provider about your risk for breast cancer. You can also schedule an appointment for a mammogram at the Goshen Retreat Women’s Health Center by calling (574) 364-4600.
