Nurses Week is celebrated nationally every year, beginning May 6 and ending on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. In 1993, the American Nurses Association proclaimed this week would permanently be designated as National Nurses Week to recognize the contributions nurses make to their communities.

Goshen Health leadership has been working closely with state and local agencies to determine the best steps forward to care for patients. After the Governor’s recent order indicating elective surgeries can reopen, the organization began to finalize plans to resume operations at a level that was safe and appropriate

Goshen Health is partnering with Fairfield Community Schools to provide 250 activity packets with their weekly lunch kits. Each Monday, April 27 through May 18, families can look forward to receiving a new and exciting activity along with simple ideas for use. Children will receive items like frisbees, jump ropes, bubbles or sidewalk chalk and fun and educational tips to play together as a family.

In early April, an Amish man in Middlebury found out that Goshen Health had created kits for the community to sew masks. He showed up to request 150 kits, each containing enough materials for 10 masks. Colleagues at Goshen Health gave him all the kits they had at the time – 75. A few days later, he returned to pick up more kits.

Goshen Health Foundation recently established the Goshen Health COVID-19 Response Fund to rapidly address the needs of local workers and families most affected by the pandemic.
