    Committed to helping people improve their quality of life, Denise Murphy, MD, FASC, is a board certified surgeon who performs a broad range of procedures. A true leader in her field, Dr. Murphy specializes in laparoscopic Rouxen- Y gastric bypass surgery, the adjustable lap band and the sleeve gastrectomy for weight loss. Prior to joining Goshen Physicians Center for Weight Reduction, this dedicated physician worked as a clinical instructor of surgery at Northeastern Ohio University’s College of Medicine in Akron, Ohio. While there, she further refined her surgical techniques and adopted the latest technology available to benefit her patients.

    Winston Gerig, MD, FACS, is a board certified surgeon who works with the Gerig Surgical Associates, P.C. He strives to make his patients feel less apprehensive and more comfortable with surgery.  

    Philosophy of Care

    Dr. Gerig received advanced training in general, laparoscopic and bariatric surgery, which allows him to perform a wide range of surgical procedures. Dr. Gerig specializes in weight-loss surgery and has performed numerous laparoscopic gastric bypass and adjustable lap band procedures with training to perform the sleeve gastrectomy. With more than 20 years of experience, this compassionate physician believes treatment doesn’t end after surgery and that patients deserve encouragement and emotional support throughout any medical condition.

    Biography

    Kathy Meier, RNC, MSN, ANP, is an adult nurse practitioner and program coordinator at Goshen Physicians Center for Weight Reduction. She uses her advanced academic and clinical experience to diagnose and manage most common and many chronic illnesses, such as obesity, diabetes and hypertension. She has experience in home care, mental health, surgery, education and internal medicine. Each of these areas has strengthened not only her clinical skills, but her belief that individuals have the ability to make positive changes in their lives. She also believes that everyone can make changes if they are willing to accept personal accountability and if they are supported with encouragement and education. At Goshen Physicians Center for Weight Reduction, Kathy manages the multidisciplinary approach to weight loss by coordinating patient care with physicians, surgeons, dietitians and personal trainers. She provides motivational counseling, reviews body composition and monitors patients’ medical status as they progress towards their weight-loss goals. In her free time, Kathy enjoys camping, cycling and time with her family. She also volunteers at Loveway Therapeutic Horseback Riding.
     

    Philosophy of Care

    Kathy’s philosophy of treatment is holistic and multidisciplinary. For each individual at the Center for Weight Reduction, a comprehensive and personal treatment plan is developed – with the participation of the patient. To help meet the different needs of their patients, surgical weight loss and medically managed weight loss are options that are discussed and evaluated against the individual’s goals and needs.

    Biography

    Ally Mast, MS, RDN, CD, specializes in medical nutrition therapy. She is part of the Goshen Physicians Center for Weight Reduction team. Ally provides nutrition care to patients seeking weight management or bariatric surgery by offering a nutrition assessment, diet education and recommendations for changes in nutritional care. To do that, she coordinates care with the surgeons, nurse practitioner and onsite personal trainer.

    Philosophy of Care

    Ally enjoys working with people who want to improve their health. She cares for people who want to lose weight, better manage their diabetes and reduce their hypertension. Nutritional care includes providing education, meal plans, healthy recipes and motivational counseling. To do her job, Ally focuses on being a good listener, which helps her provide individualized nutrition counseling. She promotes eating whole foods, believes in moderation in everything and encourages the practice of mindfulness in eating to create an enjoyable and healthful experience.
