Students are running through the hallways, around tracks and in their backyards as part of the Run the Halls program sponsored by Goshen Health.

The free program helps students increase their daily physical activity. Research has demonstrated a link between physical activity, academic success and improvements in obesity-related outcomes.

"Physical activity helps students focus and remember more of what they learn," said David Coil, DO, Medical Director, Goshen Physicians. "Run the Halls gives students a way to get the 60 minutes of activity they need every day to grow up strong and healthy."

Organizers of the program have adapted activities for today's learning environment. In-school students take brain breaks to walk at a safe distance from each other in hallways or classrooms. Virtual learners walk or run in their neighborhood, at a park, even around their house.

Goshen Health provides schools with program basics, including motivational tokens for student participants. Coordinators can download a digital record-keeping app at no charge to track student progress.
