Surgical Oncologist Sharmila Roy Chowdhury, MD, has joined Goshen Center for Cancer Care. In addition to laparoscopic and robotic surgeries, Dr. Roy Chowdhury has advanced training in therapies that combine surgery and chemotherapy in one procedure to treat patients with peritoneal cancer and other abdominal malignancies.
Goshen Center for Cancer Care has expanded its team of board certified specialists with the addition of Interventional Pulmonologist Muhammad “Sammy” Bostaji, MD. Dr. Bostaji provides the most advanced minimally invasive procedures to diagnose patients with diseases or disorders of the lungs, airways, esophagus and chest. He is specially trained in endoscopic procedures to remove blockages from the lung airways.
Board certified Medical Oncologist Kennedy “Kenny” Iheanacho, MD, joined Goshen Center for Cancer Care. Dr. Iheanacho recently completed fellowship training in hematology and oncology at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He specializes in the treatment of all types of cancers, including cancers of the blood and solid organs. He also treats noncancerous disorders of the blood.
Goshen Center for Cancer Care is the second in the state and the only facility in Northern Indiana to be accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC). A quality program of the American College of Surgeons, NAPRC accreditation can be achieved only by meeting rigorous standards for patient care. Nationwide, 85 facilities have achieved this distinction.
Gopal Menon, MBBS, MD, MPH, MBA, has joined the surgical oncology team at Goshen Center for Cancer Care. Dr. Menon has advanced training in minimally invasive and robotic procedures to treat cancers of the head and neck, esophagus, liver, pancreas, stomach and colon. He recently completed his surgical oncology fellowship at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York.

Goshen Health recently launched a new garden project, supplying ten indoor tower garden units to Goshen Community Schools. These units allow students to easily grow fresh, nutrient-rich food in the classroom year-round. Grant funding for this project was provided by the Indiana Department of Health to increase access to healthy foods in vulnerable areas. A FIT kit is a fecal immunochemical test kit that allows a qualifying individual to gather a stool sample in the privacy of their home and mail it into a lab for analysis.

In early April, an Amish man in Middlebury found out that Goshen Health had created kits for the community to sew masks. Goshen Hospital recently installed a GE Revolution Apex computed tomography (CT) scanner to provide sharper, more accurate images while reducing exposure to radiation. In addition, the new imaging machine will allow the hospital to scan pediatric patients quicker.

Working through grief alone can be difficult. Goshen Health is offering a half-day event on grief and loss, depression and the spiritual elements of grief. The workshop, Understanding Grief, will provide information on new – and hopeful – research about grieving, as well as exploring how to develop comforting ways of remembering people you’ve lost.
