When Michael Hartnagel lost his father Ralph to cancer, he wanted to do something special to honor him. Goshen Health recently launched a new garden project, supplying ten indoor tower garden units to Goshen Community Schools. These units allow students to easily grow fresh, nutrient-rich food in the classroom year-round. In early April, an Amish man in Middlebury found out that Goshen Health had created kits for the community to sew masks. He showed up to request 150 kits, each containing enough materials for 10 masks. Colleagues at Goshen Health gave him all the kits they had at the time – 75. A few days later, he returned to pick up more kits.
Goshen Health is partnering with Fairfield Community Schools to provide 250 activity packets with their weekly lunch kits. Each Monday, April 27 through May 18, families can look forward to receiving a new and exciting activity along with simple ideas for use. Since 2012, Goshen Hospital’s Echocardiography Department has been accredited by Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) Echocardiography. The award recognizes an individual who demonstrates an innovative approach to treating or caring for cancer patients and their loved ones.

Goshen Health has launched a collaborative project with grant funding from the Indiana Department of Health to increase physical activity in local parks. By scanning a QR code located on signs near benches, the Park Bench Fitness program gives community members access to free exercise videos led by a Goshen Health exercise physiologist. The videos are available in English and Spanish and give participants an opportunity to get a full body workout using nothing more than a simple park bench.
Working through grief alone can be difficult. Goshen Health is offering a half-day event on grief and loss, depression and the spiritual elements of grief. The workshop, Understanding Grief, will provide information on new – and hopeful – research about grieving, as well as exploring how to develop comforting ways of remembering people you’ve lost. Goshen Center for Cancer Care is the second in the state and the only facility in Northern Indiana to be accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC). A quality program of the American College of Surgeons, NAPRC accreditation can be achieved only by meeting rigorous standards for patient care. Nationwide, 85 facilities have achieved this distinction.
Goshen Center for Cancer Care has earned reaccreditation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a national quality program of the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation evaluates continuous quality improvement of cancer services through an onsite visit and data reporting to the National Cancer Database, a joint initiative of the CoC and the American Cancer Society.

In 2024, only 259 hospitals in the nation received the NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award. Goshen Hospital is the only one in this region to receive the award, and it has consistently met the standards of heart attack care for 13 years – every year since the award has been offered.

Certified Athletic Trainer Brandi Smith, MAT, LAT, ATC, has joined Goshen Orthopedics. She works closely with the student athletic program at Fairfield Junior/Senior High School in Goshen. Smith provides immediate care for student-athletes with sports-related injuries. She also collaborates with the team physicians at Goshen Orthopedics to build care plans to help young athletes recover physically and emotionally, while protecting their long-term health.
