About

Biography

James Wheeler, MD, PhD, is a board certified radiation oncologist who serves at Goshen Center for Cancer Care. He treats adult patients who have all kinds of cancer with all of the major, state-of-the-art forms of treatment, including image-guided radiation therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy, high-dose rate brachytherapy, intra-operative radiation therapy, stereotactic radiotherapy and respiratory gated treatment, as well as more conventional forms of radiation treatment. Dr. Wheeler has extensive experience in the latest techniques for treating cancer, and is supportive of treating patients on clinical trials.

Philosophy of Care

For radiation patients, Dr. Wheeler’s goal is to deliver an effective dose of radiation to eradicate the tumor while protecting the normal organs as much as possible. For patients who cannot be cured but are suffering from the effects of cancer, his goal is to relieve the symptoms caused by the cancer with minimal side effects from the radiation treatments. He notes that many cancers can be treated with fewer treatment sessions today than they could even a few years ago, with less patient inconvenience and fewer negative side effects.
