Philosophy of Care
Good health care involves determining how all aspects of a person's life are impacting his or her health so that appropriate testing and treatment can then be rendered and unnecessary treatment and testing avoided. Dr. Eck believes primary care physicians are a lot like builders who are skilled in many areas, but also know when to call in a specialist. Maintaining good relationships with cardiologists, orthopedic surgeons and gynecologists, for example, is vital to arriving at the desired patient outcomes. Dr. Eck emphasizes the importance of taking time to sit down with patients face to face and concentrating on listening to their stories. He believes that each person tells his or her own story in a unique way. Knowing the nuances of a patient's life, Dr. Eck believes improves his ability to provide them the highest quality of care.
From acute respiratory infections to more complicated problems dealing with the heart, lungs and other systems of the body, Dr. Eck focuses on all aspects of primary care medicine. He is most interested in providing the highest level of care in collaboration with other providers, including specialists, to people in the local community. His main focus is treatment of children needing health physicals, immunizations or who have ADD or sports injuries. Dr. Eck also works with adults with depression, diabetes, hypertension and other common conditions. Lastly, Dr. Eck provides care to his elderly patients with conditions such as osteoporosis, dementia and Alzheimer's. He is also very involved in nursing home medicine.
