    Walid Hadid, MD, is a board certified pulmonologist with special interest in interventional pulmonary medicine. He uses the latest and most advanced techniques in interventional pulmonology, such as flexible bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, navigational bronchoscopy, chest ultrasound and photodynamic therapy and argon plasma to diagnose and treat conditions of the lungs and chest.     Ashley Hardy, MD, is fellowship trained and board certified in complex general surgical oncology. After graduating with honors from Wake Forest University, she received her MD at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Dr. Hardy completed her residency in general surgery at Northwestern University where she also spent two years doing cancer research. She then went on to complete a fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center of Philadelphia. Dr. Hardy’s education included training in managing a variety of malignancies. She has a particular interest in the treatment of melanoma, sarcoma, and colorectal cancer. She now brings her expertise to the Goshen Center for Cancer Care

    Dr. Hardy believes in providing patients with compassionate, individualized care. She devotes the time necessary to answer questions and educate her patients to ensure they can make informed decisions regarding their treatment. She also understands the need for a multidisciplinary approach to taking care of cancer patients, and is committed to working alongside other members of the healthcare team to create the best treatment strategies possible for each patient.

    As a doctor of surgical oncology, Dr. Hardy has dedicated much of her time to and serving as a mentor to young students with an interest in the healthcare field. Dr. Hardy has a particular interest in the treatment of melanoma, sarcomas, and colorectal cancer. Dr. Hardy has extensive training in open and minimally invasive surgical techniques.

    Biography

    Ross A. Heil, DO, is a gastroenterologist who provides medical care at Goshen Physicians | Gastroenterology. He uses the latest therapies and newest technologies that are grounded in the medical literature to treat upper and lower gastrointestinal structural and functional issues. He also focuses on preventive gastrointestinal medicine and performs screening colonoscopies. When not caring for his patients, Dr. Heil enjoys water and snow skiing, camping, canoeing and spending time with his wife and three young boys on Lake Wawasee.

    Dr. Heil focuses his care on structural and functional gastrointestinal disorders and is proactive in diagnosing and treating lifelong gastrointestinal conditions.     Clinical Interest

    Dr. Heil treats a wide variety of general gastrointestinal conditions such as irritable bowel disorders along with other functional and structural disorders of both upper and lower gastrointestinal tract. He has an interest in GERD and related complications of GERD such as Barrett’s esophagus and peptic strictures. He does perform esophageal manometry along with pH testing for esophageal symptoms. He provides screening colonoscopies to protect patients from colon cancer. He follows and treats complications of liver cirrhosis and Hepatitis C by using newly discovered methodology and treatments. He treats inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis.

    Research Interest

    Dr. Heil is the chair of Gastroenterology for Goshen Health and is leading the implementation of quality metrics in endoscopy. His pursuit of high standards in the nationally recognized adenoma detection rate for colon cancer screening has produced an exceptional adenoma detection rate for him and his patients. The adenoma detection rate correlates with how well each endoscopist protects their patient from colon cancer. Dr. Heil has undertaken research involving ulcerative colitis at Mayo Clinic. At Indiana University School of Medicine, he investigated symptom presentation of hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes as well as transient ischemic attacks. At St. John Providence Health System, his research involved finding access to exercise facilities and healthy food choices in the under-served population to control metabolic syndrome.

    Leonard Henry, MD, MBA, FACS, is a board certified surgeon and fellowship-trained surgical oncologist. He serves as the Medical Director of Goshen Center for Cancer Care and as a clinical associate professor of surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine in South Bend. Dr. Henry graduated cum laude with academic distinction as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society from the University of Michigan Medical School. He then joined the United States Navy and completed residency in General Surgery at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. During 15 years of service in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, Dr. Henry rose to the rank of Commander. After completing the five years of surgical residency training following medical school, Dr. Henry completed an additional two years of fellowship training in surgical oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. Prior to coming to Goshen, Dr. Henry previously served as a staff surgical oncologist at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD and at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He recently received an MBA from the Indiana University Business of Medicine program and was elected to the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society.

    Philosophy of Care

    Dr. Henry believes that cancer care is increasingly complex and thus requires a team of providers as there is often more than one path of care available to patients. He views exceptional cancer care as aligning appropriate care choices with a patient’s personal values and wishes.

    Clinical Interest

    Dr. Henry primarily focuses on disorders of the thyroid and parathyroid, breast cancers, melanoma and peritoneal surface malignancies. He introduced Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) and Heated Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) to Goshen Center for Cancer Care in 2011, providing this cancer treatment for the first time in the region.

    Research Interest

    Dr. Henry is deeply dedicated to research, undergraduate and graduate medical education as well as creating value in healthcare delivery. Throughout his career, he has authored dozens of peer-reviewed medical articles, abstracts, textbook chapters and review articles.

    Robert Thomas Hill, MD, MBA, is a board certified anesthesiologist. As a chronic pain specialist, he employs an integrated approach to managing patients and their pain. By using a combination of intervention, medical management and physical therapy he treats the whole patient, mitigating their pain and improving their quality of life.     Dr. Hill’s clinical interests includes cancer pain management, chronic outpatient/inpatient pain management as well as acutephase treatment. His expertise includes performing kyphoplasty procedures for spinal fracture, implanting spinal cord stimulators for pain conditions and placement of intrathecal pumps for appropriate patients. Dr. Hill was an assistant clinical professor of anesthesia at the University of Missouri, with an emphasis on the acute pain service and working at the women and children’s campus.

    Research Interest

    Dr. Hill’s research has largely centered on clinical medicine. While in residency, he wrote a number of papers on dexmedetomidine and its clinical use. As a fellow in pain management, he has authored two pieces regarding unique pain management cases. He has also co-authored an article concerning chronic pain medication and cardiac surgery.
