Types of brain cancer we treat
A brain tumor is an abnormal cell growth in or near the brain. Many different types of brain cancer exist, but the most common are gliomas, meningiomas and pineal and pituitary tumors.
- Gliomas – These tumors form in the supportive tissue in the brain and account for about 80 percent of all brain tumors.
- Meningiomas – A meningioma forms in the membrane surrounding the brain. These are usually benign, meaning they are not cancerous.
- Pineal and pituitary tumors – Developing in the pineal and pituitary glands, these tumors account for about 14 percent of brain tumors. These tumors are rarely cancerous.
Cancerous or not, brain tumors require a high level of treatment, whether that’s monitoring the tumor or providing advanced treatment to kill the cancer cells or prevent them from spreading.
Brain tumor symptoms
Symptoms depend on what area of the brain is affected and can include balance problems, memory problems, headache and difficulty with fine motor skills. Other conditions can cause these symptoms. Have your doctor evaluate any troubling changes for a prompt diagnosis.
