What is a cardiac catheterization procedure?
Cardiac catheterization allows your doctor to see the blood vessels in your heart to diagnose or treat heart problems. The procedure begins with a light sedation that’ll keep you conscious, yet comfortable. Then, your doctor will insert a catheter through a small incision in the groin or wrist and inject a dye that’ll help illuminate your arteries and valves. With the help of X-ray guidance, your doctor will assess your heart for damage and immediately administer any necessary treatments, such as stents and balloons.
We perform cardiac catheterizations in our state-of-the-art cardiac cath lab. It’s part of our cardiac suite, where a team of heart specialists – radiologists, cardiologists and nurse practitioners – work together to treat heart and vascular conditions.
