Orthopedics & Sports Medicine
The right dislocation treatment for you
A dislocation is a type of joint injury where the joint bone slides out of position. It usually happens in an accident, such as a sports injury.
At Goshen Physicians Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, we use dislocation treatments such as closed reduction and surgery to reposition the bone and prevent future dislocations. Our team includes a lower extremity trauma specialist who is experienced in treating hip and knee dislocations.
To make an appointment for comprehensive dislocation treatment in Goshen, Nappanee or Shipshewana, IN, call (574) 534-2548.
What to expect from closed reduction and dislocation surgery
Closed reduction involves gently guiding the bones back into position. It doesn’t involve cutting or surgery and can be performed at our center or emergency room.
Your doctor may recommend surgery if other ligaments or joint structures are involved in the injury. You may also need surgery if part of the bone has broken off or if you have recurrent dislocations.
After closed reduction or surgery, you will need to use a splint, sling, crutches or boot, depending on the joint. You will also need to apply ice, rest and elevate the joint (the RICE method).
Physical therapy through Goshen Rehabilitation can help you speed up recovery, strengthen support for your joint and prevent another dislocation.
We may also suggest imaging exams, such as X-ray, to confirm the joint is healing well. We have X-ray technology right at our center, so your provider can order it during your appointment.
