Complete vascular care with a duplex scan

Duplex ultrasound is a painless, noninvasive procedure that combines traditional and Doppler ultrasound to produce live, high-definition images of blood flow through your arteries and veins. Carotid ultrasound, a type of Duplex ultrasound, creates pictures of your carotid arteries, a main supplier of oxygen and blood supply to the head and brain. Your care team at Goshen Heart & Vascular Center may use duplex ultrasound to ensure your arteries aren’t restricting blood flow.

To provide the communities we serve with complete, innovative heart and vascular care, we offer duplex ultrasound in Goshen, IN. Talk to your primary care provider about our vascular screenings. If you don’t have a primary care provider, call (877) 566-4660 for a referral.

Duplex ultrasound and stroke care

Your carotid arteries are a main supplier of blood to your brain. Narrow or blocked carotid arteries – either from a blood clot or atherosclerosis – can reduce cerebral blood flow and cause an ischemic stroke. With duplex ultrasound and other diagnostic services, we can help make sure blood flows through your arteries as it should.

A duplex scan can also help diagnose, treat and manage:

What to expect

Your duplex ultrasound will happen in our hospital where a specially trained ultrasound technician will perform the procedure. After applying a gel, the technician will move the ultrasound probe on your neck that’ll produce live images of the blood flow in your arteries. The results will be shared with your care team shortly afterwards so any treatment can promptly begin.

Duplex ultrasonography, including carotid ultrasound, is an outpatient procedure, meaning you’ll be able to go home on the same day of your appointment.
