Symptoms of jaw cancer
In the early stages of jaw cancer, there may be just pain or no symptoms at all.
As the cancer grows, people may experience additional signs and symptoms, including:
- Increased pain
- Tooth pain
- Difficulty moving the jaw and trouble chewing
- Loose teeth
A noncancerous dental condition is more likely to cause these symptoms. Tell your dentist or primary care provider if you're experiencing symptoms of jaw cancer.
Preventing and treating jaw cancer
Jaw cancer is usually the result of cancer caused by tobacco use. Heavy alcohol consumption also increases the risk of getting jaw cancer. We’re dedicated to keeping our communities cancer-free and offer smoking cessation programs to keep you at your best health.
Surgery to remove the tumor is the usual approach to healing jaw cancer. Radiation therapy, which may be combined with chemotherapy, is necessary after surgery to remove all traces of the cancer. We care for your whole self during cancer treatment, so you can expect an integrative approach that combines several treatments to heal you mentally and physically.
