Personalized triple-positive breast cancer care

Triple-positive breast cancer cells have all three types of cell surface receptors used to classify breast cancer: estrogen, progesterone and human epithelial growth factor receptor 2 (HER2).

About 1 in 5 breast cancers are HER2 positive. About 1 in 10 women have a tumor that is HER2 positive and positive for one hormone receptor. A smaller number of tumors are positive for all three receptors.

If you have triple-positive breast cancer, Goshen Center for Cancer Care has everything you need for before, during and after treatment. Our board certified, fellowship trained experts are experienced in treating triple-positive breast cancer in Goshen, IN, at our center accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).

How to catch triple-positive breast cancer early

A mammogram is the best way to detect triple-positive breast cancer before symptoms develop. A lump is the most common symptom, but others include:

  • Change in size, shape or appearance of the breast or nipple
  • Inverted nipple or nipple discharge that isn’t breast milk
  • Skin changes on the breast or nipple
  • Swelling of part or all of the breast

Symptoms of triple-positive breast cancer are no different than symptoms of tumors without receptors. The difference shows up during diagnosis. Doctors usually diagnose the receptor status of breast cancer from your biopsy tissue sample. We also look at the type and grade of the cancer cells in the sample.

Your treatment at Goshen Center for Cancer Care

Knowing which receptors are present helps you and your doctor understand your type of breast cancer and determine the best treatment plan.

Surgery and chemotherapy are the main triple-positive breast cancer treatments. After surgery, you may need radiation therapy, hormone therapy or targeted therapy against HER2. Talk to your doctor about any available breast cancer clinical trials, too.

Your treatment is designed not only to stop the cancer, but to maintain your best possible quality of life. Our team treats your complete well-being – not just your cancer – with our supportive services, naturopathic medicine and survivor network.
