Cancer Care

Specialized care for vaginal cancer

Fewer than 5,000 women are diagnosed with vaginal cancer in the U.S. each year. Almost all of vaginal cancers are a result of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Other risk factors for vaginal cancer include HIV infection, smoking, history of cervical or uterine cancer, uterine health problems requiring hysterectomy and being age 50 or older.

This cancer is highly treatable, especially in the early stages. If you’ve been diagnosed with vaginal cancer in Goshen, IN, or a surrounding area, you don’t have to be scared. Goshen Center for Cancer Care has a team of gynecological cancer experts who provide leading-edge treatment and address your complete well-being.

Request an appointment or call (888) 492-4673 (HOPE) to talk with our oncology information specialists about the cancers we treat.

Spotting signs of vaginal cancer

Early stage vaginal cancer doesn’t usually cause symptoms, but they can develop as the cancer grows. If you do have vaginal cancer symptoms, they can include:

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding – bleeding that isn’t related to menstrual periods and usually happens after sex
  • Abnormal vaginal discharge
  • Lump or mass in the vagina
  • Painful sex
  • Pelvic or back pain
  • Pain with urination
  • Constipation
  • Swollen legs

Remember that other noncancerous conditions share these symptoms. If you feel that something is wrong, see your doctor for an accurate diagnosis. Getting an HPV vaccination and regular cancer screenings, such as a Pap test, can help prevent or catch vaginal cancer.
