Know how your arteries are doing with vascular ultrasound
Vascular ultrasound, also known as venous Doppler or vascular Doppler ultrasound, is a painless, noninvasive diagnostic procedure that produces live images of blood flow in your vessels. Vascular ultrasound helps our heart and vascular team at Goshen Heart & Vascular Center diagnose a wide range of vascular diseases, including peripheral artery disease (PAD), deep vein thrombosis and carotid artery disease.
Knowing the status of your vascular health is part of your complete heart and vascular care. That’s why we use the latest advancements in health care to offer vascular ultrasound in Goshen, IN.
With complete heart diagnostic services, we would like to be a partner in your cardiovascular health. Talk to your primary care provider about our screenings or call (574) 537-5000 for a referral.
How does vascular ultrasound work?
Similar to Doppler ultrasound, vascular ultrasound uses a transducer (the ultrasound wand) to pass sound waves into your limbs to check for irregularities. Once the sound waves bounce off your vessels, a computer will convert the reflected sound waves into real-time images of blood flowing through your arteries. These images will show if blood flow is completely blocked, reduced or flowing in an abnormal way.
What to expect with a venous Doppler scan at Goshen Heart & Vascular Center
As a noninvasive procedure, you’ll be able to drive yourself to and from the appointment on the same day. The venous ultrasound begins with a specially trained ultrasound technician applying a cool gel to your legs. Then, you’ll lie on a bed as the technician glides the image-producing transducer over your legs.
The results from an ultrasound are immediate. Once your doctor receives your results, he or she will promptly share them with you to discuss the next steps, which may include a diagnosis or creating a personalized treatment plan.
