Cryoablation
General Information
At Goshen Heart & Vascular Center, we use the latest technology to heal a wide range of Heart & Vascular conditions. That’s why we offer cryoablation in Goshen, IN, to treat arrhythmia and restore abnormal heartbeats.
Cryoablation, a type of cardiac ablation, uses extreme cold temperatures to destroy damaged heart tissue that’s causing arrhythmia. As a minimally invasive interventional procedure, your doctor will use a catheter that’s guided by cardiac imaging to view and apply the treatment.
Think you might have an arrhythmia? Ask your primary care provider about receiving one of our heart screenings or call (574) 537-5000 for a referral.
Using cryoablation for AFib
A heart that beats too fast or erratically can increase your risk of blood clots, stroke and heart disease. Cryoablation can correct these abnormal heartbeats and lower your risk of life-threatening complications from atrial fibrillation. Although cryoablation is a common treatment option for arrhythmia and AFib, it is often not the first treatment choice.
Your doctor may recommend cryoablation for AFib if:
- Cardiac ablation doesn’t cure your arrhythmia
- You have a high risk for arrhythmia-related complications
- Medicines haven’t been successful
- You’ve had serious side effects from medication

The procedure will take place in our electrophysiology lab and can take a few hours to complete. You may be able to go home on the same day of the procedure, or your doctor might recommend that you spend the night in our cardiac care unit for observation.
After cryoablation, you shouldn’t participate in strenuous activity for a few days. Your doctor will let you know when you can return to work and other normal activities.
