Electrophysiology Lab

General Information

At Goshen Heart & Vascular Center, we’re committed to providing the communities we serve with complete heart & vascular care. That’s why we created a state-of-the-art electrophysiology (EP) lab that uses the latest technology to diagnose, treat and manage patients who have irregular heartbeats, including atrial fibrillation (AFib).

Our multidisciplinary team of specialists works together with one goal in mind: To help reduce the incidences of AFib and prevent complications.

We want to keep your heart healthy and beating just as it should. If you have risk factors for AFib, we have the right heart screenings to detect problems early on. Ask your primary care provider about getting a screening at Goshen Heart & Vascular Center. If you don’t have a primary care provider, call (574) 537-5000 for a referral.

Treatment for atrial fibrillation at Goshen Heart & Vascular Center

When the heart doesn’t beat normally – either too fast, too slow or erratically – blood doesn’t circulate through the body as it should. This can lead to blood clots, stroke and other life-threatening conditions.

As a treatment for irregular heartbeats, including arrhythmia and AFib, we use our EP lab to perform electrophysiology (EP) studies to find the cause of the faulty electrical signals that are causing the abnormal heartbeat. After an accurate diagnosis, your doctor can plan treatment that’s unique to your condition.

Getting an EP study at Goshen Heart & Vascular Center

An EP study can take up to four hours to complete. During the procedure, a cardiologist will guide a catheter through a blood vessel to your heart. Then, a series of electrical impulses will stimulate your heart so your doctor can monitor and record your heart’s rhythm. It’s normal to feel your heart racing during an EP study.

It’s a minimally invasive procedure, so you’ll be able to go home on the same day. Your doctor will go over all of the risks, activity modifications and post-care instructions.
