Fractures

General Information

Your bones are strong and sturdy, but trauma and certain orthopedic conditions can cause them to fracture. Bones can break lengthwise and diagonally. However your fracture occurs, our team at Goshen Orthopedics is trained to treat the most common types of fractures:

  • Stable fractures
  • Open or compound fractures
  • Comminuted fractures
  • Displaced fractures

When you have a bone fracture, visit our urgent care or emergency room for complete and convenient joint and bone care.

Learn the symptoms

Bone fractures require prompt medical care. When you know the symptoms, you can get the care you need that will help prevent long-term complications.

Common symptoms of a bone fracture include:

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Deformity
  • Pain, which may be severe and make it difficult to move
  • Tenderness

Some people hear a snap, grinding or other noise when the fracture happens.

What causes fractures?

Osteoporosis, overuse injuries and trauma are the three leading causes of bone fractures. With osteoporosis, a weakening of the bones increase their risk of breaking. Even minor falls and small injuries can cause bones to fracture. Repetitive motions, which places recurring force on a particular bone, can also weaken a bone and cause it to break.

Care for hip fractures and other types of broken bones

Our treatment goal is to heal the fracture and restore your normal movement. Your treatment plan will include putting the bone back in place and keeping it there while it heals. Depending on the fracture, orthopedic pins or screws, surgery or physical therapy can treat the problem.
