Heart Screenings
General Information
We offer a coronary artery calcium screening for $75 and a set of four heart & vascular screenings for free. Talk to your primary care provider about which option will provide the best information on your heart. All screenings require a provider referral.
Coronary artery calcium screening
The purpose of this screening is to define the presence of calcium in coronary arteries and provide a strong predictor of whether you are likely to have a cardiac event like a heart attack or stroke.
The patient benefits include:
- Identifies risk for cardiac disease within next 10 years
- Identifies treatment options before symptoms begin
- Identifies signs of coronary artery disease
- Quantifies amount of plaque buildup
Treatment options
Depending on risk, treatment could include therapeutic lifestyle changes, cholesterol medication (statin therapy) or additional cardiovascular testing. Your provider will discuss these options with you.
If you are interested in having a calcium screening, talk to your primary care provider about your risk factors.
A set of four screenings to evaluate your heart and circulation — and they are FREE
- Echocardiogram – An ultrasound of the heart, the echocardiogram demonstrates how your heart is working by evaluating various structures of the heart and how they are working to detect potential abnormalities.
- Abdominal aortic ultrasound – Evaluates size, shape, and blood flow through the aorta that supplies blood to your lower extremities.
- Ankle-brachial index (ABI) – Evaluates blood flow in your limbs to measure your risk of peripheral artery disease (PAD).
- Carotid artery ultrasound – Evaluates the blood flow from your heart to your brain.
To be eligible for this set of four screenings, you must meet the criteria of having one or two risk factors for heart disease. Your primary care provider can tell you more.
Preventive screenings in one package
Our screenings involve more than your blood pressure and heart rate. These heart & vascular screenings evaluate how well the heart functions, including its rhythm, blood flow and circulation throughout the body. These simple, painless tests help detect problems early – before symptoms appear. And with early diagnosis, we have more options for treatment to keep heart and blood vessels healthy.
If your results show you are at risk for heart or vascular disease, our highly trained team can work with your primary care provider to develop a treatment plan to lower your risk of heart attack, stroke, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and peripheral arterial disease (PAD) to the legs and feet.
Treatment options
Depending on risk, treatment could include therapeutic lifestyle changes, cholesterol medication (statin therapy) or additional cardiovascular testing. Your provider will discuss these options with you.
Do I need a heart screening?
Often, your primary care provider may recommend a screening because of your age, health history or if you’ve previously had a cardiac procedure. Some people experience symptoms that needs a heart screening to confirm the condition or rule it out.
If you have any of the following risk factors for a heart or vascular problem, talk to your doctor about getting a heart screening:
- High blood pressure
- Elevated blood cholesterol levels
- A family history of early heart attack, heart disease or heart failure
- Diabetes
Detecting problems early can lead to prompt treatment that can help save vital functions of your Heart & Vascular system. Talk to your doctor about which screening is right for you.
