Why does my hip hurt?
Hip pain can be caused by an injury, an orthopedic condition or normal wear and tear. Just a few of the common causes of hip pain we treat include:
- Arthritis
- Dislocations
- Bursitis
- Tendinitis
- Fractures
- Muscle strains
- Sciatica
When you visit Goshen Orthopedics, one of our providers will talk to you about your health history and perform a physical exam, paying special attention to your overall mobility and range of motion in your hip. We may recommend a blood test, imaging test (CT scan, X-ray or MRI) or joint aspiration to get a full picture of the problem.
After a diagnosis, we’ll create an integrated care management plan to get rid of your hip pain. Many hip conditions and injuries respond to rest, a break from sports or other activities and medicine. We often recommend physical therapy as a way to relieve pain, restore strength, flexibility and range of motion, and prevent future problems. Surgery, such as hip replacement, may be necessary if the injury is severe enough or if you’ve tried other options without success.
At every step, our specialists consult and collaborate with other team members to make sure we’re taking care of your whole self, not just your hip problem.
