Interventional Cardiology
General Information
Today, many heart & vascular conditions can be treated by interventional cardiologists using cardiac catheterization.
At Goshen Heart & Vascular Center, we put our patients first by using innovative treatment options, including interventional cardiology. Our cardiac catheterization lab features high-definition imaging equipment that’s used to quickly and safely perform minimally invasive procedures to diagnose or treat your heart condition.
These interventional cardiology procedures are offered by our experienced interventional cardiologists:
- Coronary artery angioplasty or stents
- Atherectomy
- Cardiac ablation
- Cryoablation
- Mitral valve repair
- Angiography
- Intravascular ultrasound
- Biopsy
Knowing the state of your heart is important to your overall health. Before we use interventional cardiology to diagnose a problem, the first step is a heart screening. Talk to your primary care provider or call (574) 537-5000 for a referral. Our integrated team at Goshen Heart & Vascular Center can then develop a personalized treatment plan based on your results, which may include an interventional procedure.
How cardiac catheterization works
Cardiac catheterization is a minimally invasive procedure where a catheter (a thin, flexible wand) is inserted into a large vein or artery in your arm or leg. The catheter is moved through your body to the treatment site, such as an artery or your heart. The interventional cardiologist then corrects the problem using small instruments.
Is an interventional cardiology procedure right for you?
For you, a minimally invasive interventional cardiology procedure means less pain, a lower risk of infection and a faster recovery time than with open heart surgery. Your doctor will let you know if this treatment option is right for your condition.
After your procedure, you will need to take it easy for a few days and follow any specific instructions from your doctor. We may also recommend that you participate in our rehabilitation therapy program to start you on the right track to improved heart health.
Through collaboration and compassionate care, our goal is to see our community achieve better health.
