Am I a candidate for joint replacement surgery?

When you come to us with joint pain, our orthopedics specialists create a personalized treatment plan for you. We may recommend joint replacement if:

Other treatments, such as physical therapy, medication, injections and less invasive surgery, haven’t worked

  • X-rays show severe joint damage with loss of cartilage and bone
  • Your daily activities are limited by joint pain and stiffness
  • You have joint pain even at rest
  • The joint is deformed or unable to heal from injury

What to expect from joint replacement at Goshen Orthopedics

Before your procedure, you will attend our Joint Replacement Camp and go through the steps of what happens before, during and after joint replacement surgery.

All of our joint replacements are performed at Goshen Hospital. Your orthopedic surgeon will remove the damaged joint and replace it with a new, artificial joint, or joint implant. You’ll be under general anesthesia and won’t feel pain.

Your surgery may be a total or partial joint replacement. Your provider will discuss the possibility of minimally invasive surgery, which usually involves less pain and a faster recovery than open surgery.

You’ll stay at the hospital for a few days after your surgery, then work with a physical therapist to regain your joint function. Full recovery can take up to a year, but most people are able to return to activities they used to enjoy with less joint pain.

Prepare for surgery with Joint Replacement Camp

When you select Goshen Orthopedics to perform your joint replacement surgery, we want you to feel confident about your procedure. That’s why we offer our Joint Replacement Camp prior to your procedure. During this session, our providers will walk you through the steps of what happens, before, during and after joint replacement.
