Muscle Pain
General Information
Everyone experiences muscle pain from time to time from overuse, stress, tension or minor injuries. Muscle pain can also be caused by arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis, and related conditions.
At Goshen Orthopedics, we can identify the cause of your muscle pain, then recommend a treatment that’s tailored to you. Our team takes a comprehensive approach, evaluating your symptoms and considering your complete well-being.
How to treat muscle pain
Our goal is to reduce your muscle pain and return you to your normal activities. Your provider at Goshen Orthopedics may recommend these treatments to ease muscle pain and related symptoms, such as joint pain.
- Rest, ice, compression and elevation (the RICE method) is an easy way to sooth painful muscles at home.
- Heat therapy, including heating pads, warm compresses and warm baths can be more comfortable than using ice packs for some. Try alternating heat therapy and ice.
- Gentle massage and stretching can help ease muscle pain. One of our providers or physical therapists can show you how to not overstretch or stress the muscle.
- Topical medicines you apply to the skin often offer elective relief for muscle pain. They come in various forms, so you can find the method that works best for you.
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) include over-the-counter options for mild muscle pain and stronger versions for severe pain as recommended by your provider.
