Musculoskeletal Pain
General Information
Musculoskeletal pain involves bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons and bursae. It often affects more than one of these types of tissues. Acute pain tends to be sudden, follows a specific injury and lasts for a few days to a few weeks. Untreated acute pain can be chronic, lasting for months or years.
To avoid chronic musculoskeletal pain, see a specialist at Goshen Orthopedics. Returning you to enjoying your favorite activities free of pain is our goal. Make an appointment by calling (574) 534-2548 .
Diagnosing your pain
When you come to us for musculoskeletal pain, your provider will ask you to describe your pain to help them make the right diagnosis. You should also mention any symptoms that occur with your musculoskeletal pain, including:
- Body aches
- Fatigue or sleep problems
- Limited range of motion, such as not being able to fully extend or flex a joint
- Muscle twitching, burning muscles or the sensation of overworked muscles
- Nerve-related pain
- Stiffness
- Swelling
- Warmth and redness
To confirm a diagnosis, you may need an imaging exam. We have on-location X-ray and MRI capabilities so your provider can order the test during your same appointment.
Musculoskeletal pain treatment at Goshen Orthopedics
Your treatment depends on the cause of your musculoskeletal pain. Injury is the most common cause. Acute injuries that cause musculoskeletal pain include sprains, sprains, fractures, dislocations and direct blows to the area. You may also have a chronic injury from overuse or repetitive stress. These injuries happen gradually and are usually related to sports or other activities.
Our treatment plans are tailored to your unique needs and care for your complete well-being. Your provider collaborates with other specialists to determine the most appropriate treatment. We often recommend rest, medication and physical therapy. In more serious cases, you may need injections or surgery.
