Nutrition & Weight Loss

A weight loss diet created just for you

When it comes to weight loss, a healthy and balanced diet is just as important as exercise. Good nutrition not only supports a healthy body and immune system, but it plays a key role in natural weight loss.

Making and sticking to diet changes can be difficult. That's why the compassionate team at Goshen Physicians Center for Weight Reduction offers expert-created diet plans for weight loss. With nutrition therapy and our medically managed weight loss program, we provide support as you make the necessary diet changes to reach your goals.

Nutrition for weight loss

Fruits, vegetables and low-fat proteins naturally have fewer calories than junk foods such as high-sugar and processed foods. Consuming these low-calorie foods reduces your caloric intake and gradually leads to weight loss. A balanced diet will also give you the energy you need to exercise and keep to your weight loss regimen.

Sticking to your weight loss meal plan

Deciding what to eat and how much to eat can be difficult to know. Planning ahead, including preparing healthy snacks, is essential to practicing good nutrition.

Follow these proven tips to stay on track:

  • Find healthy foods you enjoy eating.
  • Incorporate these foods into your diet 80 percent of the time.
  • Identify weak spots in your diet such as when you eat high fat and sugar foods and focus on making specific changes.

When you need extra support and motivation making healthy choices, the dedicated weight loss experts at the Center for Weight Reduction can help.

Treatment

Personalized obesity treatment for weight loss success

Obesity is a chronic disease that can create complications for your health. At Goshen Physicians Center for Weight Reduction, we care for you as a person – not just the size of your waistline. The goals of obesity treatment are to achieve a healthier body, reduce or eliminate health complications and improve your quality of life and well-being.

We understand that each patient and weight loss plan is different. Not everyone needs weight loss surgery. There are other ways to help you achieve your weight loss goals. That’s why we offer several options for obesity treatments, as well as physical and emotional support.

How to treat obesity at Goshen Physicians Center for Weight Reduction

Through medically managed weight loss and bariatric surgery, we enable you to take control of your health. Your provider explains the risks and benefits of each treatment and helps you determine which weight loss plan best meets your needs.

Behavior therapy

Behavior therapy can help you understand and manage thoughts and behaviors about food and body weight. These attitudes are often subconscious and can interfere with your success. Through informational seminars and support groups at the Center for Weight Reduction, you learn:

  • Cognitive restructuring to adopt realistic beliefs
  • Problem solving
  • Social support
  • Stimulus control by identifying and avoiding high-risk situations for overeating
  • Stress management

Dietary modification

Dietary modification involves calorie reduction or restriction. You will work with a registered dietitian to develop meal plans during and after weight loss, as well as learn about healthy food choices and portion sizes.

Exercise and physical activity

Research shows the human body reacts to reducing calorie intake by slowing metabolism. You need to increase your metabolism through physical activity to achieve weight loss success. At Center for Weight Reduction, you will regularly consult with a dedicated exercise physiologist to develop a fitness program based on your needs and goals. We also have a full-service fitness center that is solely for weight loss patients.

Bariatric surgery

If you are committed to changing your lifestyle and meet other qualifications, you may be a candidate for weight loss surgery. Our bariatric surgeons offer several options including laparoscopic gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy.

We can help

Trust our integrated team to develop a weight loss plan specifically for you, and lead you through every step of the process.

What is BMI?

A healthy weight range is on the horizon

A healthy weight means you’re carrying the right amount of weight for your height. Body mass index (BMI) measures this weight-to-height ratio and is a primary factor in determining if you’re at risk for weight-related conditions, such as obesity and Type 2 diabetes.

What is a healthy BMI?

A healthy BMI is between 18.5-24.9, while a BMI over 25 indicates overweight.

Full BMI weight status categories are:

  • Underweight = BMI below 18.5
  • Normal or healthy weight = BMI 18.5-24.9
  • Overweight = 25-29.9
  • Obese = 30-39.9
  • Extremely Obese = 40 or greater
