Behavior therapy

Behavior therapy can help you understand and manage thoughts and behaviors about food and body weight. These attitudes are often subconscious and can interfere with your success. Through informational seminars and support groups at the Center for Weight Reduction, you learn:

What is BMI?

A healthy weight range is on the horizon

A healthy weight means you’re carrying the right amount of weight for your height. Body mass index (BMI) measures this weight-to-height ratio and is a primary factor in determining if you’re at risk for weight-related conditions, such as obesity and Type 2 diabetes.

What is a healthy BMI?

A healthy BMI is between 18.5-24.9, while a BMI over 25 indicates overweight.

Full BMI weight status categories are:

  • Underweight = BMI below 18.5
  • Normal or healthy weight = BMI 18.5-24.9
  • Overweight = 25-29.9
  • Obese = 30-39.9
  • Extremely Obese = 40 or greater

Work out and lose weight at our fitness center

When you come to Goshen Physicians Center for Weight Reduction, you have everything you need to achieve your weight loss goals: a committed team of weight loss experts, fitness center, emotional support and more.

Exercise is an important part of your weight loss success, and we provide a comfortable environment that enables you to meet your goals. Our exercise physiologists show you how to lose weight with exercise through personalized workout plans.

Through an integrated model of care, we address your entire well-being, not just your weight. 

A fitness consultation with our exercise physiologist is required before you can exercise at our fitness center. The consultation takes 30-45 minutes and includes a fitness level assessment and six-week personalized exercise program tailored to your medical conditions and fitness goals. Exercise plans are offered for home, gym or our fitness center. The first consultation costs $45 and check-ins are free to update your exercises.

Note, you will need to schedule one-hour workout sessions with our exercise physiologist to ensure a safe environment for all at the fitness center. The fitness center membership fee is $20 per month.

At Goshen Physicians Center for Weight Reduction, we take an integrated approach to weight loss. Our team includes exercise physiologists who partner with our patients to incorporate exercise into your weight loss plan. Exercise physiologists are professionals who help people increase their physical performance, including strength, flexibility, mobility, movement and the ability to participate in work, exercise or sports.

When you come to our Center for Weight Reduction, you work one-on-one with an exercise physiologist as part of our medically managed weight loss program.

No matter your weight, working with an exercise physiologist can sound intimidating. Know that we are committed to your success. 

Weight loss training customized to you

You and your exercise physiologist at the Center for Weight Reduction will create an exercise plan geared toward your unique needs and goals. Let your exercise physiologists know if there are certain activities you enjoy more than others. We want to help you find ways to make weight loss as easy as possible.

Your exercise plan focuses on weight loss methods, including:

  • Cross-training with a variety of activities and exercises
  • Doing low to moderate intensity exercises for optimal weight loss
  • Emphasizing duration of activities and gradually increasing the amount of time you are active
  • Gradually increasing daily activities, such as doing household chores, using the stairs, and parking at a distance
  • Modifying activities to work with your abilities and limitations
  • Protecting your joints until your body mass index (BMI) safely allows more strenuous activities
