Many things can cause nausea or vomiting. But if you have severe or persistent vomiting that lasts for hours or days, it can cause dehydration. This is serious for infants, children, pregnant women and the elderly.

  • Vomiting has lasted more than 12 hours

Visit the emergency room if you have the following symptoms:

  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Headache or stiff neck
  • Haven’t urinated for more than eight hours for adults or four hours for infants
