Spine Disorders

General Information

Your spine plays a crucial role in your supporting your body and brain health. Nerves in your spine connect with nerves in your brain, sending vital messages that instruct the body how to function. Damage to any part of this delicate system can lead to an array of problems, including pain and immobility.

Conditions that affect the spine, including any of its supporting bones, tissues and nerves, require the expertise of trained Orthopedic experts. At Goshen Orthopedics, we’re dedicated to healing spine disorders in our community — whether that’s relieving pain from arthritis or helping you recover after a spine injury. Call (574) 534-2548 to make an appointment for diagnosis or treatment of a spine disorder.

Conditions we treat

Our physicians are trained and experienced in treating a variety of spine disorders, including:

  • Sciatica
  • Herniated discs, also known as slipped discs
  • Scoliosis
  • Acute and chronic back pain

Associated symptoms

Pain, whether it’s sudden, sharp or dull, is usually the first sign of a spine disorder. Depending on what area of the spine is affected, other symptoms can occur along with the pain.

Common symptoms that occur with a spine disorder include:

  • Pain in the back or neck
  • Abnormal curvature of the spine
  • Muscle spasms
  • Tightness
  • Numbness or weakness in the arms or legs
  • Difficulty moving

Comprehensive spine disorder care at Goshen Orthopedics

We focus on improving your life, including relieving any pain, improving your mobility and helping you prevent spine-related problems in the future. You’ll work with your provider and care team to create a treatment plan that may consist of physical therapy, bracing or medication.

Physical therapy

A physical therapy program is designed to strengthen your spine. You’ll learn exercises that can help heal your spine disorder, manage pain or decrease pain. Learning how to move to prevent future problems may also be part of your program.

Medication

Orthopedic pain management involves medications that are stronger than over-the-counter medication. These medicines may include anti-inflammatory medication and muscle relaxants to reduce spasms. When used with other types of treatment, they are effective at relieving back pain and other symptoms associated with spine conditions.
