Goshen Center for Cancer Care is the second in the state and the only facility in Northern Indiana to be accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC). A quality program of the American College of Surgeons, NAPRC accreditation can be achieved only by meeting rigorous standards for patient care. Nationwide, 85 facilities have achieved this distinction.

“This accreditation lets patients know that within their community, we can deliver the exceptional care they need when facing rectal cancer,” said Urs von Holzen, MD, MBA, FACS, Medical Director of Goshen Center for Cancer Care. “Knowing they are being treated by a multidisciplinary team at an accredited site of excellence provides an additional level of comfort.”

The goal of the NAPRC is to ensure rectal cancer patients receive the most comprehensive care using a multidisciplinary approach that includes clinical representatives from surgery, pathology, radiology, radiation oncology and medical oncology. Goshen Center for Cancer Care’s care team includes those specialties – as well as naturopathic doctors, palliative care physicians, mind-body counselors and dietitians.

“This accreditation validates our multidisciplinary approach and places our cancer center in an elite subgroup of colorectal cancer programs in the country,” said Randy Christophel, Goshen Health President and CEO. “It demonstrates our commitment to providing the very best medical care to the people in our community.”

Accreditation is effective for three years and is granted only to programs who comply with NAPRC standards for program management, clinical services and quality improvement for patients – those committed to providing the best possible care to patients with rectal cancer.
