Goshen Health Foundation Offers Free, Secure Online Will Service in Honor of National Make-a-Will Month
In recognition of National Make-a-Will Month, Goshen Health Foundation is encouraging community members to take one of the most important steps in protecting their loved ones and preserving their values — creating a will.
Through a partnership with Giving Docs, the Foundation offers a free, secure online platform that makes will creation simple, private, and accessible to everyone. Available exclusively through nonprofit organizations, Giving Docs is paid for by Goshen Health Foundation, ensuring there are no costs to users and no risk of personal information being sold to advertisers.
Creating a will helps individuals decide how their assets — from treasured family heirlooms to financial resources — will be distributed. Without a will, courts make these decisions, which can result in sentimental possessions being lost or assets going to unintended recipients.
“The number one reason people don't do their will is that they just don't get around to it. Number two is they don't know how, and number three is they don't want to spend the money on it or it's just not the right time in their budget,” said Jim Caskey, Vice President of Goshen Health Foundation. “A will helps protect the people you love and ensures your wishes are followed — whether it’s passing on a valuable asset or something with deep emotional meaning, like Grandma’s rolling pin.”
The Giving Docs platform walks users through a series of easy-to-follow questions, making it possible to create a will in as little as 20 minutes. Wills can be updated at any time, free of charge.
“It's your final voice,” Caskey added. “It's not just a document that you're making; it's a reflection of what you care about and what your values are. It's how you pass on what matters to you, even after you're gone.”
While there is no obligation to include Goshen Health Foundation in a will, many people choose to do so as a way to make a lasting impact on healthcare in the community.
To create your free, secure will, visit goshenhealth.com, click the “Give” button at the top of the page, and select “Create a Will” from the Goshen Health Foundation homepage.

Growing healthier communities through classroom gardens
Goshen Health recently launched a new garden project, supplying ten indoor tower garden units to Goshen Community Schools. These units allow students to easily grow fresh, nutrient-rich food in the classroom year-round. Grant funding for this project was provided by the Indiana Department of Health to increase access to healthy foods in vulnerable areas. Teachers are integrating gardens into math lessons, art, writing and problem solving. More than 600 students have been positively impacted to date.
