Mammography Technologist at Goshen Retreat, Mardell Baker has been honored with Goshen Health’s Gardener Award for her exceptional care, professionalism and compassion during a patient’s first mammogram experience.

Baker was nominated by a patient, Audrey Duncan, who shared how Baker’s calm, reassuring presence helped ease her anxiety during a stressful time. Duncan shared that Baker took the time to explain each step of the process, acknowledged her fears and made her feel seen and supported. “Her friendly demeanor and gentle approach really helped settle my nerves,” Duncan wrote. “I left the office feeling significantly less stressed than when I arrived.”

“It’s truly an honor to be recognized,” said Baker. “What I do each day feels routine, but it’s meaningful to know it makes a difference. I’m proud to represent the incredible team at the Retreat, where we all strive to provide compassionate, high-quality care.”

The Gardener Award was created at Goshen Health to recognize Colleagues outside of nursing who provide and support patient care through exceptional work. It celebrates individuals who are outstanding role models in the way they exhibit positivity and professionalism, make a positive impact on the care of patients and their families, and work well with all members of the health care team—all while exemplifying Goshen Health’s values.
