Paramedic Certification

For over three decades, Goshen Hospital has provided training in advanced emergency medical care that has led hundreds in our community to receive paramedic certification. Over 90 percent of graduates in the program receive certification as Nationally Registered Paramedics with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

The Paramedic Training Program at Goshen Hospital is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

To enroll in Paramedic Training Program at Goshen Hospital, you must have the following:

• 18 years or older with a high school diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician issued by the Indiana EMS Commission
• Valid CPR provider certification
• Proof of current tuberculin (TB) skin test

The Goshen Hospital Paramedic Program maintains technical standards for each applicant/student to maintain and perform during their time in the program.

Each applicant/student must be able to:

1. Communicate effectively via telephone and radio equipment
2. Lift, carry and balance up to 75 pounds (150 pounds with assistance)
3. Interpret oral, written and diagnostic form instructions
4. Use good judgment and remain calm in high stress situations
5. Be unaffected by loud noises and flashing lights
6. Function efficiently without interruption throughout an entire work shift
7. Calculate weight and volume ratios
8. Read English language manuals and road maps
9. Accurately discern street signs and addresses
10. Interview patients, patient family members and bystanders
11. Document, in writing, all relevant information in prescribed format, in light of legal ramifications of such
12. Converse, in English, with coworkers and hospital staff with regard to the status of the patient
13. Perform all tasks related to the highest quality patient care
14. Bend, stoop and crawl on uneven terrain
15. Withstand varied environmental conditions such as extreme heat, cold and moisture
16. Work in low light situations and confined spaces
17. Work with other providers to make appropriate patient care decisions
18. Be physically free of use of non-prescription drugs, illegal drugs, and alcohol

Any applicant who does not meet the technical standards as outlined above is ineligible for admission to the program.

Any paramedic student whose status changes while enrolled and no longer meets the technical standards at outlined above, may not be allowed to continue in the program.

The Goshen Hospital Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).
