    Abdul Basit, MD, FACP, FACC, FSCAI, is a board certified interventional cardiologist at Goshen Heart & Vascular Center. He is fellowship trained in cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology.

    Dr. Basit treats a range of heart and vascular conditions, including chest pain, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels, circulation disorders, arrhythmias and congestive heart failure. He uses minimally invasive procedures to open blocked arteries, widen narrowed heart valves and improve blood flow to organs and limbs.

    Clinical interests for Dr. Basit include advanced treatment procedures for acute and chronic diseases of the heart and arteries. Specifically, he is interested in acute coronary syndrome, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, peripheral artery disease (atherosclerosis), arrhythmia in women (irregular heartbeats or abnormal heart rhythms) and carotid artery stenting.

    Research Interest

    Dr. Basit has conducted extensive research studies on cardiogenic shock, heart disease in women, hyperlipidemia as well as prevention of amputation and heart attacks. His findings have been published in many peer-reviewed medical journals. He also has served on editorial boards for several clinical journals.

    Biography

    Dr. Charles Bower is a board certified radiologist at Goshen Hospital. He specializes in providing diagnostic and interventional radiology services, primarily for patients with peripheral vascular disease, all types of cancer and end-stage renal disease. Dr. Bower performs a range of radiology services at Goshen Hospital, Elkhart General Hospital and Memorial Hospital in South Bend. He is an honorary member of the medical staff at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago where he had previously served as a radiologist since 2001.

    Dedicated to education, Dr. Bower is a volunteer assistant professor of radiology at Indiana University School of Medicine and a clinical assistant professor of radiology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago.

    Away from his medical practice, Dr. Bower combines interests in endurance sports, triathlon and scuba diving with his love of photography and videography. His enjoyment of music led to his serving on the board of organizations including the International Music Foundation that provides free concerts in downtown Chicago and another dedicated to the preservation of Philadelphia’s Wanamaker Organ.

    Walid Hadid, MD, is a board certified pulmonologist with special interest in interventional pulmonary medicine. He uses the latest and most advanced techniques in interventional pulmonology, such as flexible bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, navigational bronchoscopy, chest ultrasound and photodynamic therapy and argon plasma to diagnose and treat conditions of the lungs and chest. At Goshen Physicians Multispecialty Clinic, Dr. Hadid manages general pulmonary diseases, shortness of breath, cough, COPD/emphysema, asthma and Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.

    Dr. Hadid holds a strong commitment to helping others. He has volunteered his time at the New Life Volunteering Society, working as a primary care physician at a rural free clinic on the weekends. In his free time, Dr. Hadid relaxes by enjoying a good dinner and a movie.

    Farid Jalinous is a board certified clinical and interventional cardiologist with Goshen Heart & Vascular Center. He diagnoses and treats patients with cardiovascular disease, such as coronary artery disease, heart failure and atrial fibrillation. Dr. Jalinous performs noninvasive, invasive and interventional cardiovascular procedures to diagnose and treat heart disease.

    A cardiologist for more than 20 years, Dr. Jalinous has extensive experience with advanced, minimally invasive techniques to treat heart conditions. He is a board certified cardiology nurse practitioner who evaluates and makes guidelinedriven recommendations and treatments for patients with cardiovascular disorders. As a service line administrator, Ram evaluates systems of care to assure Goshen Heart & Vascular Center is delivering accessible, highly skilled and defectfree care to the community. His optimism in the unlimited human potential for innovation and benevolence inspires him to seek results that improve the health of our communities through best practices and quality outcomes.

    Ram’s goal is to restore health and wellness to patients in ways that are safe, guideline driven and appropriate. Compassion for patients and empathy for their individual cardiovascular and other comorbid conditions are the foundations for patient care.

    Dr. Justin Lightburn is an Interventional Radiologist at Goshen Hospital. He performs vascular, non-vascular and interventional oncologic procedures at Goshen Hospital, Elkhart General Hospital and LaPorte Hospital. He serves as chairman of interventional radiology for all three hospitals, and as the Director of Interventional Radiology for Goshen Hospital.     Dr. Lightburn specializes in endovascular and interventional oncology procedures. His endovascular procedures include common carotid artery stent placements, carotid ultrasounds, stenting, ablations and venography. He treats peripheral artery disease, vascular malformation, carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysm, cerebrovascular disease and venous insufficiency. His interventional oncology procedures include radioembolization of tumors, chemoembolization of tumors and percutaneous ablation of tumors.

    Blair MacPhail, MD, is an interventional cardiologist at Goshen Heart & Vascular Center. He has extensive experience in cardiology, with more than 25 years of caring for patients. As an interventional cardiologist, he takes care of general cardiology problems and peripheral vascular problems as well. He treats narrowed and blocked arteries by appropriately evaluating and removing clots from blocked arteries; using laser and atherectomy devices to open arteries; and strategically placing balloons and stents to stabilize and improve blood flow. Dr. MacPhail assesses and treats patients with coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, peripheral vascular disease, hypertension and valvular and vascular heart disease. Dr. MacPhail worked as an interventional and staff cardiologist at Community Physician Network & Community Health Network, Kokomo and Indianapolis. He was the director of the cath lab at Indiana University Health Saxony in Fishers, IN. He served as an interventional cardiologist at Heart Partners of Indiana, LLC, and Indiana Heart Associates, PC in Indianapolis. He also worked as a research biochemist in the Recombinant DNA Program for Eli Lilly and Company, Indianapolis.

    Abrar Raza Sayeed, MD, specializes in cardiology at the Goshen Heart and Vascular Center. As a cardiologist, he provides both inpatient and outpatient care at the center. Dr. Sayeed performs many different tests and procedures to both diagnose and treat patients.

    Dr. Sayeed believes that medicine is one of the best ways to serve humanity and that it is best practiced when our focus is towards a patient-centered approach in the delivery of medical care. Dr. Sayeed’s approach is not just about solving the medical disease and alleviating the suffering of his patients. He believes that approaching this same goal by understanding the impact the disease has on his patients from the psychological, social and behavioral standpoint is of utmost importance. This helps in formulating a unique approach towards each patient and delivering the best possible care for them taking careful account of each patient’s circumstances.     Dr. Sayeed pursues his strong interest in Invasive General Cardiology by focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of heart conditions such as acute coronary syndrome, heart failure and arrhythmias concentrating on atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), ventricular tachycardia (VT), V-fib, syncope, lipids and hyper cholesterolemia, essential hypertension, valve diseases, venous insufficiency, peripheral arterial disease and pulmonary hypertension. Dr. Sayeed also works with diagnostic left-heart catheters, using both radial and femoral approaches, right-heart catheterization, echocardiography, Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), exercise stress testing, nuclear stress testing, pacemaker implants, loop recorder placement, temporary transvenous pacemaker placement, Cardioversion as well as tilt table testing.

    Research Interest

    Dr. Sayeed is actively researching the stabilizing effect of beta blockers and calcium channel blockers on cholesterol crystallization and vulnerable plaques. Having published many articles and research abstracts on this and other subjects related to the treatment of heart disease, Dr. Sayeed remains committed to offering his patients the highest quality of care using the most up-to-date technology and drug treatment. He continues to write and publish articles on topics specific to his and others’ cutting edge research in the fight against heart disease. This research includes the pursuit of various types of treatment in addition to pharmaceutical therapies during cardiac care such as Dr. Sayeed’s analysis of the direct effects of Nifedipine on cholesterol crystallization and vulnerable plaques. His aim is to increase the effectiveness of specific treatment plans while maintaining a manageable cost.

    Kim W. Kahler, MSN, ACNP-BC, is a nurse practitioner who provides care at Goshen Heart & Vascular Center. With over 20 years of nursing experience, he is completely devoted to his patients. Prior to joining Goshen Heart & Vascular Center, Kim worked as a nurse practitioner at Goshen Center for Cancer Care. He was also a nurse practitioner at the Nebraska Heart Institute and a medical oncology nurse practitioner at Great Plains Regional Medical Center, both in North Platte, NE. Throughout his career, Kim has served in several areas of nursing including emergency room, intensive care, cardiothoracic surgery and as a nursing coordinator. In addition to his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing, Kim also holds bachelor’s degrees in education and life science. Just as dedicated to his country as to his patients, Kim serves as a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserves at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.

    Jami K. Kamp, MSN, RN, FNP-BC, is a board certified family nurse practitioner with a wide variety of health care experience including acute care pediatrics, osteoporosis, interventional radiology and adult cardiology. She joined Goshen Heart & Vascular Center after beginning her nurse practitioner career in interventional radiology. As part of the cardiology team, Jami uses her advanced clinical assessment skills to diagnose and treat chronic and acute coronary and peripheral vascular disease. She evaluates patients’ needs and develops treatment plans for patients with chest pain, congestive heart failure, palpitations, high blood pressure, leg pain, arrhythmia and more.

    Being a nurse practitioner provides Jami with a very unique opportunity to deliver high quality health care by combining the holistic nursing model with the medical model. Not only does she look at the illness or disease process, but she looks at how they affect the person and his or her individual circumstances.
