Goshen Hospital nurse receives DAISY Award for extraordinary emergency care
Emergency room nurse Will Grant, RN has been honored with Goshen Health’s DAISY Award for his extraordinary kindness and calming presence during a patient’s challenging medical experience. Grant resides in Warsaw, Indiana.
Grant, a registered nurse at the Goshen Hospital Emergency Room, was nominated for the award by Esther Aparicio, the wife of a patient he treated. Aparicio described Grant’s ability to bring comfort and reassurance that helped ease her husband’s anxiety during his lab work and IV placement. He was able to intentionally create an environment that made a stressful situation feel manageable for the patient.
Aparicio shared that her husband, initially dreading the procedure, soon found himself laughing as Grant lightened the mood with conversation and the simple yet effective “wiggle your toes” technique. “It was such a relief to see my husband laughing at such a stressful moment,” said Aparicio. “We are so grateful for the compassion and care shown during what could have been a very tense and difficult experience.”
“I am very humbled and honored to receive this award,” said Grant. “I feel lucky to work with such a great team of Colleagues in the Emergency Room who allow me to have the opportunity to show patients that we care and want what is best for them.”
The DAISY Award is a national recognition program that celebrates, recognizes and honor nurses for their exceptional skill and compassionate care. Nominations come directly from patients and their families, highlighting the profound impact that nurses have on those they serve and care for.
