Anterior Knee Pain
General Information
Long-term solutions to your anterior knee pain
Many athletes experience knee pain from time to time. Anterior knee pain is discomfort in the front and center of the knee area, particularly surrounding the kneecap (patella).
Our team of board certified providers at Goshen Orthopedics is equipped to treat all types of sports injuries, including anterior knee pain. As partners of the community, we’re committed to your health as you enjoy your favorite activities.
What causes kneecap pain?
Causes of anterior knee pain include:
- Arthritis
- Irritation of the patellar tendon
- Inadequate warm up, cool down or stretching techniques before and after activities
- Injured knee joint cartilage
- Traumatic injury, such as a dislocated kneecap or torn patellar tendon
Noting any symptoms that occur with your anterior knee pain can help our experts make a diagnosis. Keep track of when your pain starts and stops, your activities, other symptoms such as feelings of numbness, clicking, grinding or popping and treatments or activities that make the pain worse.
You may need imaging tests to confirm or rule out a diagnosis. Our X-ray and MRI technologies are located at our facility and can be performed during your same appointment, saving you travel time.
Personalized options for anterior knee pain treatment
The intensity, type and duration of your anterior knee pain and its underlying cause help us determine the best treatment plan, which is customized to your unique needs.
Your provider at Goshen Orthopedics may suggest physical therapy, strengthening exercises or techniques. If a specific injury or structural damage is causing the pain, you may need a more advanced treatment, such as orthopedic surgery .
The goal of treatment is to relieve and prevent further patella pain. Physical therapy is offered through Goshen Rehabilitation, which is located in the same building. We work together to coordinate your appointments for a seamless experience.
