From service to spotlight: Goshen Hospital celebrates DAISY Award winner Karina Jimenez, RN
Goshen Health is proud to recognize Karina Jimenez, RN, Progressive Care Unit, as the fourth quarter DAISY Award recipient. The DAISY Award celebrates nurses who provide extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care every day.
Karina was nominated by patient Edna Becker from Middlebury, IN, who shared her heartfelt story of the remarkable care she received during a recent hospitalization.
Edna, a retired nurse with 28 years of experience, described Jimenez as a “shining star” among her Colleagues. She recalled being anxious and overwhelmed due to heart concerns and the recent loss of her husband of 56 years. Jimenez’s ability to explain complex medical information with clarity, patience and empathy made a profound difference during this difficult time.
“I was very worried about heart problems and was a nervous wreck. Karina was so informative, explaining complex heart information clearly and patiently answering all my questions. She was empathetic, kind, caring and compassionate, which made a frightening time much more bearable,” Edna wrote in her nomination. “I had recently lost my husband and was feeling alone, but her reassuring thoughtfulness gave me comfort and strength. Karina’s light shines bright, and wherever she goes, she blesses both patients and doctors simply by being in their presence.”
Jimenez’s dedication to her patients and her ability to provide both clinical excellence and emotional support exemplify the values of the DAISY Award. Her Colleagues and patients alike recognize her as a leader who fosters teamwork and promotes emotional well-being.
“I would like to thank my family and my fellow nurses who have helped shape me into the nurse I am today,” expressed Jimenez upon receiving the award. “I would also like to thank my patients who inspire me every day.”
