Goshen Health is proud to recognize Mark Potuck, Tobacco Treatment Specialist at Goshen Hospital, as the latest recipient of The Gardener Award, honoring his exceptional dedication to patient care, education and wellness.

The nomination came from Noah, a patient who shared that Mark’s compassion, positivity and genuine connection brought comfort and encouragement during a difficult hospital stay. Noah shared that Mark took the time to talk with him about the realities of tobacco addiction, listened with empathy and brought warmth and hope into a moment filled with uncertainty.

“From the moment I met Mark, he made an enormous impression. His attitude, kindness and ability to make me smile—even while I was facing repeated pneumothorax incident—was incredible,” Noah wrote. “He didn’t just talk to me about the dangers of tobacco; he connected with me on a personal level and showed real care toward me and my family. He went above and beyond, touching our hearts. I truly believe he deserves recognition for the impact he makes.”

Mark works closely with patients in the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program, helping individuals break free from nicotine addiction - whether through smoking, vaping, or nicotine pouches. His work extends across the organization and the community, providing support for inpatients, offering one-on-one outpatient sessions and meeting with patients during appointments.

“It is an honor to receive this recognition. After more than 12 years here, I know many Colleagues who go above and beyond for our patients every day and are just as deserving. I’m grateful the administration created my role, which allows me to work so closely with patients struggling with nicotine dependence," said Mark Potuck. "No other hospitals in our area have made that kind of commitment. I’m passionate about helping people break free from nicotine addiction and I’m truly honored to be finishing my career here at Goshen Health.”

The Gardener Award was created at Goshen Health to recognize Colleagues outside of nursing who provide and support patient care through exceptional work. It celebrates individuals who are outstanding role models in the way they exhibit positivity and professionalism, make a positive impact on the care of patients and their families and work well with all members of the health care team—all while exemplifying Goshen Health’s values.
